The Igreja Matriz (Main Church of Vila do Conde) is located in the heart of the historical district of Vila do Conde,, in the area of Porto.
This church is worth noting for its manueline ornamentation mainly from the XVII century. It’s especially interesting the sculpted door by João de Castilho, celebrated architect, who worked - among many other places - in the Jerónimos Monastery, in Lisbon and Convento de Cristo, in Tomar.
The main building of the church finished in 1518, but several elements were added at different times, such as the bell tower, added during the 17th century.
Its interior is composed by three naves divided by sculpted columns and an apse featuring a sacristy, where the Vila do Conde Religious Art Museum is located. This museum exhibits a small but interesting collection of religious art.
