Castro Verde is a town located 42 kilometres Southwest from the city of Beja, in Alentejo, Portugal.
This place is known, among other things, for being the setting of the Battle of Ourique in 1139, with the legendary presence of Santiago Caballero. This battle is illustrated in the tiles of the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
The municipality of Castro Verde is a good choice for practicing ecotourism and it counts with an Environmental Education Centre in Herdade de Vale Gonçalinho, from which interesting guided tours are organized.
