In Batalha stands out the luxurious Santa María da Vitória Monastery, one of the greatest achievements of the Manueline architecture of Portugal. It is one of the most impressive monuments of the country.
The monastery is surrounded by modern buildings with no character. It is located in front of a glorious equestrian statue of the General Nuno Álvares Pereira.
However, Batalha has many other surprises for travellers who like to learn and discover new places. Once in the city, you can enjoy different activities, such as exploring the Grutas da Moeda (Moeda Grottes), stroll and relax in the Pia do Urso Sensorial Ecopark, visit the Alta Estremadura Ethnographic Museum, or have a look at the Igreja of Santa Cruz Exaltação Mother Church, a piece of architecture by the famous architect João del Castilho.
If you do not like to spend extra time, you can spend a single day in Batalha and discover its spectacular monastery.
