Alentejo has beautiful landscapes with a great amount of exciting routes and paths that can be gone all over on foot or by bicycle. In addition, its municipal roads, despite lacking cycle lane, turn out to be excellent for touring by bicycle.
The Sierra de São Mamede Nature Park, with more than 56,000 hectares, is an amazing choice to practise routes on foot or by mountain bike. This nature park, located 1025 metres above the sea level, has paths and routes that flow among hills, valleys and streams, It has a diverse landscape that can be gone all over on foot or by bicycle. Its five signposted routes have their starting points in Portagem and in Marvão and Galegos villages.
In Cabrela and Monfurado there is also a signposted routes network. In particular, there are four circular routes which starting points are Escoural, São Cristovão and Cabrela, as well as the Environmental Interpretation Centre, in the municipality of Montemor-o-Novo.
Moreover, the Vale do Guadiana Nature Park, in the border with the Algarve, has 69,000 hectares of nature with seven signposted hiking routes. Through them you may discover unique places such as Pulo do Lobo or the Alcaria Range.
