Santiago da Barra Castle is located in the fishing and trading port, near the mouth of the river Lima, in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
It is interesting to walk the perimeter of the walls of this small castle, built in the 15th century as a fort. Later on, it was turned into a larger one by the order of Philip I in 1592, to protect the port from pirate attacks.
The castle is surrounded by a moat, so access is through a drawbridge. Currently the castle was declared asset of Cultural Interest.
Campo de Castelo, Viana do Castelo.
Free admission.
