The Alvados Grottoes are located 25 kilometres far fromFátima, between Alvados and Serra de Santo António Mountains, in the south of the N243 road, in the region of Leiria, Portugal.
Discovered in 1964, in the north side of the Pedra do Altar Hill, they offer a 450-metres tour along 10 rooms connected by artificial tunnels. Each one of them has its own crystalline-water lake.
Its golden walls and the great amount of stalactites and stalagmites connected in pillars make the place a unique one.
The largest of the rooms, 42 metres high, still preserves bones from animals that used to fell inside it.
