The Convento da Arrábida (Arrábida Convent) Monastery is isolated in the middle of Serra da Arrábida, in the district of Setúbal, Portugal.
It’s a Franciscan monastery that constitutes a large complex with different rooms connected by paving ways. From this monastery stands out the Capela de Nossa Senhora da Arrábida Chapel.
The entrance to the chapel is preceded by a statue crafted in marble that figures Frei Marinho, one of the founders and inhabitant of the monastery. In the middle of the 16th century Frei Marinho fell in love with this beautiful place and decided to set up here his spiritual retirement.
Even though it isn’t a place much visited, specially because of its isolation in a rural zone, you have the possibility to rent some rooms of the monastery to take pleasure in this idyllic and mystic place.
