Vila Nova de Milfontes is a touristic destination in the municipality of Odemira, Alentejo region, that is integrated within the Sudoeste Alentejano Natural Park. It extends beyond Cape São Vicente, preserving the least influenced landscapes of Europe, composed of savage and steep coast.
This charming holiday town is located in the mouth of the Mira river, surrounded by great extensions of sand. During the summer, the town becomes full of activity in its lively bars and clubs.
One of the must-see attractions in the valley of Vila Nova de Milfontes is the São Clemente Fortress, a striking muslim castle.
It could be argued that the most important characteristic of this town is its proximity to unique beaches. The most renowned of these are Praia do Malhão, Praia de Alteirinhos, Praia do Farol, and Praia de Almograve.
25 kilometres to the north along the road, you can find the town of Zambujeira do Mar, another village full of charming natural beaches, although quieter than Vila Nova de Milfontes.
Other trip worth making is to the villages of Odemira and Cabo Sardão.
