The Iberian Wolf Recovery Centre (IWRC) was created in 1987 by Grupo Lobo (a Portuguese non-governmental non-profit organization), with the aim of providing a suitable environment for wolves that cannot live in the wild. At the same time it functions as an environmental education centre intending to inform the general public about the true nature of the wolf and the threats this endangered species faces in the wild.
The IWRC is located in Mafra, about 30km from Lisbon.
This space allows wolves to find shelter in a 17 hectare forest giving them the opportunity to live in a semi-natural area.
The wolves can be observed through various strategic points, including observation towers overlooking the enclosures.
Visit the IWRC and support the conservation of the last big predator in Portugal.
