This iconic bridge is located in Tâmega river, in the quiet town of Amarante, Portugal.
The Ponte de São Gonçalo Bridge, composed of granite, is a symbol of the strength in the defense of the town against the French. An evidence of this is the plaque located in the southern part of the bridge, commemorating said deed.
The original bridge was built during the 13th century following orders of Gonçalo, but collapsed in 1763. The current one was built in 1790.
