The Vista Alegre Museum is in Ílhavo, close to Aveiro, where the factory of Portugal pays homage to one of the most valuable fabrications, the porcelain, of great relevance during the XIX C., it is located near the Vista Alegre Chapel.
In this museum, built in 1920 and still operating at present, you will find in your visit designs through the five galleries that are truly works of art, recreating the diverse periods of fabrication which the factory went through. You will also learn more about one of the most important professions of Portuguese society, from its beginnings until now. A firm which manufactures works for the most important houses of the world, such as the House of Alba.
Walk through the galleries of the Vista Alegre Museum and discover the first pieces of refined glass manufactured in the factory. Learn about the background of porcelain’s manufacture since 1824, as well as the raw materials and tools that constitute and speak of the history of this pottery.
During your time in this museum, be sure to visit the Virgin of Peñafrancia Chapel, listed as national monument, located near the building of the factory. The Chapel has in its interior a sculpture of great value to Portugal, the mausoleum of the bishop Miranda Don Manuel de Moura.
