This museum is held in the São Domingos Church (14th century), located in Rua Paio Galvão in the city of Guimarães, in the North of Portugal.
It is a cultural institution (founded in 1881) and the main Museum on Celtic culture in Portugal, also one of the most important in Europe on the matter.
It’s open to the public since 1885, displaying a rich collection of archaeological objects (mostly from the Celt Iberian tribes) inside a former convent. In the cloister you may find stone objects such as huge columns and Roman landmarks, and even a Celtic sarcophagus.
Also you may see a Toolbox of the Paleolithic and Neolithic Era, a sublime collection of stones that adorned the Celts’ “Spas” of the region.
