The São Tiago Square is located in the historic center of Guimarães, in the North of Portugal.
According to a legend, an image of the Virgin Santa Maria was carried to the city by the Apostle St. Tiago and placed inside the temple, later renamed the square of Santiago.
This site preserves its medieval appearance, where there used to be a small chapel (17th century) dedicated to Saint James which was demolished in the late 19th century.
