The Misericórdia Church was built and offered to Queen Leonor by the King John II, in mid-sixteenth century. This gesture was result of the integration of Silves in the Queen’s House, which would then be used by Santa Casa da Misericórdia (Holy House of Mercy).
From its original structure still remains the Manueline portal.
The interior has a very simple nave, although it highlighting the interesting Mannerist style altarpiece of the main chapel and the central framework, which represents the Visitation dating from 1727/28.
