This small village is one of the most typical cities in Algarve. With whitewashed houses and chimneys decorated with arabesques, it is flanked by trees. Alte is located in the municipality of Loulé, in the heart of Algarve.
Its origins date back to the Roman period, where Muslims also settled. The Mother Church is in the heart of the town and it dates back to the 13th century, the chapel housing several handpainted pieces from the 16th century.
Another important place in Alte is the water mill, dating back to the 12th century.
In the streets you will still find several craft shops where local products can be purchased.
The vicinity of Alte are worth visiting, specially Queda do Vigáro cascade.
