The Castle of Sesimbra, located on the top of the city and the bay, features winding walls that offer excellent views of the valley and the coast.
This castle was taken by D. Afonso Henriques in the 12th century, retaken by the Arabs and, finally, gotten back by the Christians commanded by D. Sancho I.
At night, its battlements shine like gold on a lovely lighting atmosphere.
Inside the enclosure was built the18th century Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo Church. It has a white façade and houses a golden altar and exquisite tiles.
The castle also features an ideal park for picnic.
