There are many activities to do in these magnificent mountains. The Park is the natural habitat of many endangered species, especially birds such as the black stork and doves. You can still find 10 species of bats, lizards, hawks’ mountain and a species of owl called "eagle owl".
In terms of flora, some plants of the Park have medicinal properties. These are also rare and at risk, in particular the harpsichord-blueberries (Armeria Transmontana), yellow gentian (Gentiana Lutea) and cedar/juniper (Juniperus Communis).

Hiking
Serra da Estrela is the ideal setting for hiking.
Skiing
in the winter season (January to March), the park offers several ski slopes so you can enjoy this wonderful sport .
Furthermore, in Serra da Estrela you may also perform other activities such as cycling or horse riding, climbing, canoeing, etc. In the area you will find several companies involved in organizing such activities.
If you enjoy the world of cycling, in the Tower’s area you will find the Vodafone Bike Park (the price is between 15€ and 20€).
In the area of Manteiga you’ll find SkiParque, an interesting resort for skiing and snowboarding, where you can also enjoy other activities such as biking, hiking, rappelling, paragliding, climbing or canoeing.
