Museu da Horta (Horta Museum) is located in the premises of the Colegio de Misiones (Mission College), next to the Câmara Municipal, in Horta, the capital of Faial island, Azores, Portugal.
The first two rooms if the museum features interesting exhibitions of religious paintings, images, gold and silversmithing, and ivory. It also boasts two Baroque paintings by Bento Coelho da Silveira, and a 17th century Holy Family, as well as a 16th century Cristo del Santo Entierro, a São Pedro in Vincoli breaking the chains, and two other 17th century paintings: Santiago Peregrino and São Benedicto.
From the central hall, decorated with pianos, antique furniture from the 19th and 20th century, and a collection of contemporary paintings and sculptures from the Azores, you can access a room focused on local crafts, where - besides carefully explaining the origin of such traditions, the techniques, and tools used - you can see a good deal of works by artist Euclides Rosa. Among these stand out the reproduction of Queen Mary, the Torre de Belem Tower, and a hamlet from the Azores, as well as one of his masterpieces, the Sociedade Amor da Pátria, which took more than 1,600 of work.
