Founded in the 17th century, the Igreja da Nossa Senhora do Cardal Church was founded at the beginning of the 17th century in the town of Pombal commanded by Earl Luís de Vasconcelos e Sousa.
It is a small Baroque building made by architect Régio João Antunes. Its facade it so impressive.
On its interior stand out the Solomon columns in the main chapel and the nice reredo in stone. It belongs to the Portuguese Renaissance and comes from the destroyed Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo, by João de Ruão.
Here were placed the Marquis of Pombal human remains, from 1782 until 1856, when they were moved to the Misericórdia de Lisboa Chapel.
