The Pombal Castle is erected in the village of Pombal, around 25 kilometres to the city of Leiria, Portugal.
Built in 1161 by Gualdim Pais, a great Templar master. It wa remodeled in the 16th century and refurbished in 1940.
Its walls have a fortified battlemented tower from where it is possible to enjoy great views over Pombal and the Serra da Lousã Mountains. In the past, the castle divided the Christian from Moorish territories.
Nowadays the castle is very well preserved and houses a palace from D. Manuel I. Outside are located the ruins of the old Pombal Mother Church, well-known as Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo Church.
