The humble medieval Castelo de Lamego (Castle of Lamego) stands atop the city of the same name surrounded by stone houses, in the North of Portugal.
To access the castle you have to climb a narrow and twisting stair in Rua da Olaria.
Currently, only the wall and a tower remain, and are not always open. Despite that, walking along the small streets is a pleasure, and the views from the castle are worth the effort any day of the year.
Rua do Castelo, Lamego, Portugal.
Free admission, although donations are welcomed.
Variable (there may be periods during which it is closed).
