The Lamego Cathedral or Sé is the oldest in Portugal and has been declared National Monument.
The original building dates back to the year 1119, but only the base of the bell tower is preserved. The rest of the structure, highlighting the sculpted portice with triple Gothic style, dates mainly from the 16th and 18th centuries.
It’s worth noting the ceiling, since it shows attractive Biblical frescoes that seem to come to live and the choir chairs, both by baroque architect Niclau Naoni, who left his imprint all around Porto. The renaissance-style cloister with a dozen arches is also relevant.
