Nossa Senhora do Desterro Convent is located up to the Igreja Matriz Church of Monchique, in the interior of Algarve.
This Franciscan convent was founded in 1631 by Pêro da Silva. The building was seriously damaged by the earthquake of 1755. At present, its ruins present a curious attraction.
The place where it is located is quite peaceful and has one of the most beautiful landscapes in the area.
There is a magnificent magnolia tree in the formerly plot of the convent. It has been classified as being of public interest. It is believed that it was brought from the India by the founder of the convent.
