Porto Covo is the first of the charming coastal cities located south of the Setúbal Peninsula. The oldest part of the town was a fishing village. It has a beautiful square and cobbled streets.
Along the cliffs there are paths leading to the port. It is located at the southern end of the city. Also, you can go to the interesting rock formations located in the north. They have several beaches such as Praia da Samouqueira or Praia do Salto, a nudist beach.
In the sea, there is a deserted island called Pessegueiro, it is near 250 meters from Porto Covo. This island appears that the source of inspiration for poets . In Pessegueiro, there were found traces of the Carthaginian occupation of the 3rd century BC and the Roman one.Mostly salting tanks for fish were found from the Roman period .
Another interesting place are the ruins of a fort built in the 17th century. Near the fort have a twin fortress in Porto Covo. Both buildings defended the coast.
