The São Roque do Pico was an important port for whales hunting, although currently this activity has been musealised, and its colourful port has an usual commercial activity.
In the pier, located behind backs the modern port, there are three whaling ships preserved being part of the monument raised in honour to harpooners.
From this city is worth visiting the Whaling Industry Museum (Free admission), located beside the port.
Not far from the there is located the City Council and the 18th century São Pedro de Alcântara Convent, which facade has an arcade extended under the bell gable. Its interior exhibits Baroque tiles and altars.
The 1776 Mother Church also stands out, boasting great quality Renaissance and Baroque imagery, which is accessible by a littoral path departing from the port.
The most important festivities in São Roque do Pico are the Cais ones, taking place at the last weekend of July. It is full of folkloric performances and modern music, as well as a procession of allegorical carriages, and nautical competitions, among others.
