The Museu dos Baleeiros (Whaler's Museum) is placed close to the city of Lajes port, in Pico Island in the Azores Archipelago, Portugal.
This museum was designed by the architect Paulo Gouveia, who directed the restoration of the three boats houses in the 19th century to create this exhibition space.
The collections of this museum are mainly related to the history and ethnography of the traditional whale hunting, including objects for sailing, old photographs, blacksmith and whalers tools, espeiros (special tools) used for manually quarter the whales, as well as a complete collection of scrimshaws donated by Jacob Tomas, a whaling ship, and some works made in sperm whales tooth and bones, for example miniatures, necklaces, canes, and so on, made by craftsmen of the island.
The museum also exhibits a projection of a very clarifying video to know how whales hunting was; and has a specialized library for those who wish to extend their knowledge.
