Pitões das Júnias is a Portuguese village located 1,200 metres altitude in the concelho (council) of Montalegre, which is within the Peneda Gerês National Park, in Portugal.
The origin of the foundation of this town is related to the Santa Maria das Júnias Monastery and dates back to the 9th and the 11th centuries.
In this area, it is still possible to see the customary Choupanas, a kind of cabins covered with straw roofs.
Its cultural heritage is enhanced by the Igreja church and the ruins of the Santa Maria das Júnias Monastery, in which still preserves a Romanesque hallway.
In the surroundings of Pitões da Junias there is a stunning natural waterfall.
