Vila do Gerês is a touristic village which is integrated in the Peneda Gerês National Park, in the North of Portugal.
On this area of the park, nature becomes more wooden and steep, with little streams and crystalline water puddles which are ideal for a refreshing bath.
This village, in the valley of the Gerês River, counts with a spa and famous bathes which are ideal for resting after a hard day of hiking.
Close to the village of Gerês there are different hiking routes which are easily accessible by car. Some of the best known ones are:
Cascata do Arado Waterfall or Cascata de Tahiti Waterfall: A 12 kilometres hiking route with fantastic panoramic views. It is a true challenge because it goes deep on a mountain rock field and precipes full of ferns, and ends in a beautiful waterfall known as Cascada de Tahiti Waterfall.
Trilho da Preguiça: Rounded path beginning in the N308, 3 kilometres far from Gerês. It reaches around 5 kilometres.
Trilhos da Calçada Romana (Paths of the Roman Roads): There are different road which connect the old Roman road which extends for 320 kilometres, communicating Braga with Astorga (Spain). It boasts the World Heritage site award.
