The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção church of Cacela Velha is the result of a construction from the 18th century, from which is preserved just a small lateral vestibule in Gothic style. The current structure dates back to the 16th century, even though it suffered an important reconstruction during the 18th century.
Its arcade is Renaissance in style and on it exhibits the busts of apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul and adorned pilasters
The inside of the three naves, with arches supported by columns and capitals, is decorated with hemispheres and ropes.
The chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Mártires has a wood panelling vault and an arch in Renaissance style. Among the most valued objects this church harbours stands out the statue of Nossa Senhora da Assunção (18th century), two Christs (16th century) and an iron processional cross decorated with figures.
