Longroiva Castle, listed as National Monument, constitutes one of the best examples of military building from the Knights Templar in Beira Interior, as well as one of the best examples of Romanesque style in the region.
It was built atop a fortress from before even Roman times, erected somewhen between the IV and II centuries. The current castle was ordered by Gualdim de Pais, Master of the Knights Templar, in 1176.
Currently, still survive some parts of the walls and homage tower, which was one of the first fortified buildings on Portugal.
