Montemor-o-Novo Castle is the original enclosure of the medieval village of Montemor-o-Novo.
This castle was conquered to the Moors commanded by D. Afonso Henriques, and its current walls were built during the reign of D. Dinis.
It was progressively abandoned from the 16th century. Nowadays it preserves important stories of Medieval and Modern history of Montemor-o-Novo, such as wall pieces, the Paço dos Alcaides Palace, the Igreja de Santiago Church (nowadays Interpretation Centre of the Castle), the Igreja de Santa Maria do Bispo Church, the Relógio Tower, the Porta da Vila Door, the Porta do Anjo Door, the Má Hora Tower or the Saudação Convent.
