The Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado (Estuário do Sado Nature Reserve) is made up by more than 23,000 hectares with thousands of natural species. It is also considered a CORINE biotope.
The mouth of the Sado River is an important protected area as it represents the zone of nesting, resting and wintering of several birds such as flamingos, storks and ducks as well as a spawning area for many fishes, among which is the Common Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus).
The Estuário do Sado Nature Reserve is a privileged space for species protection and also a premium spot for bird spotting.
The most common activities you might do at this reserve are canoeing, boating, horse riding, walking, bike riding, playing traditional games, MTB and other sports which may not harm nature.
