The Castelo de São Felipe (São Felipe Castle) is located in the West part of Setúbal, in Portugal.
This project by Enrique de Terzi is situated at the top of a promontory.
This castle was built under the command of Felipe I in 1590 to stop an attack from the English army over the Spanish Armada as well as to dissuade the Portuguese patriots to carry out actions against the Spanish control.
Since 1960 it houses a beautiful Pousada.
From top of its walls it’s possible to contemplate giddy views.
Inside the castle you’ll find a military chapel, adorned with tiles from the 18th century that represents the life of San Felipe.
On the terraces, distributed into different levels and communicated by vaulted galleries, the castle had big batteries for cannons and sentries.
