The Santa Clara Convent is one of the most emblematic Gothic monuments of Santarém. It was built up in the 13th century and stands out due to its magnificent church, also Gothic. The lack of a façade emphasises the nakedness of the outside.
Its inside counts with a central narrow 72-metre-long nave which ends with a beautiful rosette window dominating the tomb of Doña Leonor (14th century). On both of its sides, you find the Franciscan friars and clares; while at its feet is shown Saint Francis receiving the stigmas; and in the head it can be seen the Annunciation.
It is also worth visiting the 17th century frescos.
This convent is listed as National Heritage since 1917.
