The Sé, or Salvador Cathedral (1568-1618) is located in Angra do Heroísmo, capital city of Terceira Island, Azores, Portugal.
This cathedral was restored after the 1980 earthquake and the 1984 fire. In 1991 it was visited by Pope John Paul II, event remembered by an outdoors statue.
Its facade has two towers crowned by tiles that lead to an interesting interior through a three arches gallery, which have connection to other naves separated by six Doric columns on each side, as well as a plain wooden kneading-trough covering the central nave.
The major chapel exhibits a Christ’s life reredo; while the Santísimo one shows a rich Baroque silver front dating from 1720.
The sacristy, just as the Religious Art Museum, host several images saved from a fire, as well as Jacaranda furniture, bishop’s portraits, liturgical clothes, goldsmithing, and a monumental nativity scene, work by Machado de Castro.
