São Sebastião is located in an area benefited with a nice microclimate in the Terceira Island, Azores, what has helped to make its coastal area become a famous residential place distributed around Porto Maríns.
The main attraction of the city lays on its 15th century and beginning of the 16th mother church, which has on its walls interesting Renaissance frescos about the Final Judgment and Christ appearing to different saints. The interior of the church is divided into three naves separated by six arches, the central one covered by a wooden trough, and the major Renaissance chapel. The facade is simple, with an ogid portico , a rose window and a Baroque tower crowned by an hexagonal pyramid finishing.
In front of the church you will find a square with a monument allusive to the Saga Battle, and a 1918 building in impêrio style.
To the North, is located the curious 13th-century imêrio (facade) of Bastardo Fountain, with its trilobed arches.
From the centre of São Sebastião you can quickly access the coast, where you will find a local path that leads to the Mós Bay. From there you can have a look at the Ilhéu da Mina Islet, and the Ponta das Contendas Point.
Northern to the city is located the Gruta das Agulhas Grotto, an interesting 300-metres lava tube; and Porto Judeu, with the colouristic 1916 impêrio (typical building) and the 16th century Igreja de Santo Antonio Church.
