Caldeira Velha, located next to the town of Ribeira Grande in São Miguel Island, is a natural setting listed as Regional Monument in theAzores. This amazing place is charming due to its exotic vegetation, from true wild laurel forests to liquens surrounding the springs.
The true jewel, though, is a natural pool of thermal water (at 37ºC) fed by an impressing waterfall. Water leaves a mark in the after centuries, with the rocks turning of an orange hue. This, combined with the intense green of the lavish vegetation, offers a memorable landscape.
To reach this spot from Ribeira Grande, drive along the EN 5-2A towards Lagoa do Fogo.
