The nearby areas are marked by the tea plantations. Legend goes that it was in this hill where, in 1831, the battle of Ladeira da Velha took place. In the battle, the troops of King D. Pedro IV defeated those of his brother D. Miguel, leading the way to the concession of Évora Monte, that ended the civil war between Liberals and Miguelistas (supporters of D. Miguel) that lasted from 1832 to 1834.
