The Igreja da Misericórdia Church of Tavira is considered the best Renaissance building in Algarve.
Its wonderful carved arcade is crowned by the statues of Nossa Senhora da Misericordia, São Pedro and São Pablo. Created by the stonemason master André Pilarte, who also worked in the Jerónimos de Lisboa Monastery.
It has three naves covered inside by 18th century tile panels representing mercy. On the presbytery there is a golden-wood reredo dating back to the same time.
Rua da Galería, Tavira.
