The Museu Paleocristão (Paleochristian Museum) is situated in the North of the old town of Mértola.
This museum has a 6th-century Roman colonnade, partly rebuilt; as well as several funerary stones, some of them with beautiful engravings drawing birds, hearts and crowns.
In this very same place there was a huge Paleochristian basilica. The nearby cemetery was used for centuries by Muslims and Christians.
Largo do Rossio do Carmo, Mértola.
