The Igreja de São João Baptist Church, recently restored, stands next to the Porta da Vila, and is one of the most iconic buildings in the walled portuguese city of Óbidos.
This church, built by order of Queen Isabel in 1309, is devoted to Saint Vicent, and served to attend lepers in the middle ages. In the early XVI, the temple was integrated in the patrimony of Santa Clara da Misericórdia de Óbidos, and since 1636 up to the liberal ages, it was the parish see.
Since then, it progressively deteriorated, until it was restored to house the Museu Parroqual de Óbidos, a space where art and religious patrimony live in harmony.
