Porta do Vale is the levantine entrance gate to Óbidos, inside of which is an oratory and chapel devoted to Nossa Senhora da Graça, in the same place where legend says there lied an image offered as gratification after the siege of 1246.
This chapel-oratory was renovated in 1727 under the initiative of Bernardo de Palma, a magistrate from India, in fulfilment of a promise of his daughter, who died of falling in love with a young man from Óbidos. The site was thus transformed into a true temple, with reredos, chapel, choir, sacristy, and tribune. The nave is no more than an interior passage to the stree.
Óbidos, Portugal.
