Anjos is a historic city of Santa María Island found in the Azores Archipelago. The houses of this town are painted in white with doors, window frames and corners painted in yellow, typical colours of São Pedro.
Here should be emphasized the place’s natural pool, one of the best ones in the island, surrounded by steps.
On the entrance of the city, at the feet of an araucaria, you will find the Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Anjos Shrine, a full of history modest shrine from the 19th century. Next to it there is a still preserved arch belonging to the primitive chapel where Cristóvão Colombo (Christopher Columbus) prayed after dropping anchor in the Cré Bay, in 1493, on his way back from the discovery of America.
On the outskirts of the town is located the Ermida do Pilar Shrine, which dates from the 18th century and hosted a stone Baroque altar.
