Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church, also known as Portimão Mother Church, was built towards the end of XV c. However, it was damaged by the 1755 earthquake; therefore, it had to be rebuilt in the XVII c., and, afterwards, during the XIX c.
The gothic hallway with golden capital and a gargoyle are the only remains of the original building.
On the inside, it is worth having a look at the XVII c. tiles, marble images as the one of São Pedro (XVI c.), and different marble crucified sculptures and lignum vitae (guayacan).
