Portimão Museum is located in the interior of an old canning fish manufacture which has been restored. This makes it a good cultural reason to visit the lively city of Portimão while you are visiting Algarve.
It is a modern museum, opened in 2008. It is divided into three fields: archeology, underwater findings and, the most interesting, the recreation of the mackerel and sardine conservation, plus the old assembly line, including the sound effects. In addition, the museum exhibits an outstanding video about the fishing sector. The video shows the steps of the process, from how the nets are cast into the shoal of fishes to its canning.
