Alvor Beach separates the ocean from the Alvor Sea Inlet, and creates an inside lake, with a swampy area and quiet water channels.
It has a great environmental importance, because it is frequently visit by aquatic birds, and used as breeding ground by a considerable amount of fishes and molluscs (from cuttlefishes to bivalves).
The sandy barrier is huge and reaches as far as the eye can see. In the interior, stands the picturesque Alvor village, with its typical houses and fishing boats anchored in the sea inlet. On the outside, there is a large dunes field.
