The Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo Church of Faro is a majestic Baroque building with two twin bell-towers. The building, funded and decorated with Brazilian gold, was completed in 1719, during the reign of King João V.
The current façade was built after the 1755 earthquake and, then, attached to the left-side of the building. The Capela dos Osos stands next to the tombs in the Old Cemetery. This chapel, built with thousands of bones and skulls from monks, tries to remind visitors the sinister side of mortality.
