Ilha Deserta Island or Ilha Barreta can be accessed from the charming dock of Portal do Sol, in Faro. The trip, along the sand and sediment banks of the Río Formosa, crossing channels, and lagoons, is truly unique. Many birds can be watched during the journey, such as amazing flamingoes.
Once at the beach, the sandy area is vast and extends beyond sight. It is home to many species such as little terns, sea swallows, and terms.
A natural trail route departs from the dock on an elevated wooden footbridge, that also reaches the beach.
