The São José Convent (Convento de São José) was part of the carmelite order. It is composed of a cloister, chapel, and tower founded, and was founded in Lagoa in 1713. The building endured many different functions through history, currently housing the two cultural centres of Lagoa.
Its chapel features sculpted altars and an image of São José with Jesus Christ dating back to the XVIII century.
The current convent is classified as monument and used as museum and auditorium.
