The Pegões Aqueduct nearbuy Tomar was designed by the Italian architect Filippo Terzi following the orders of King Felipe I in 1593, to strengthen the water supply to the Convent of Christ.
This impressive work extends for more than six kilometres with 180 arches. The aqueduct is to the northeast of Tomar following the route to the monastery.
You can visit the monument from the road to Leiria, two to three kilometers from downtown Tomar.
